When I shot Sara and Sean it was a typical beautiful sunny LA day and although I have learned to find my way around most of LA I had a lot of trouble finding the house that we shot this episode. It hadn’t dawned on me that Sean and Sara were brother and sister until they introduced themselves, but as soon as they started playing it was clear that they had obviously been playing together for a long time. There is such a unique feeling you get with bands that are made up of family members and have been playing together all their lives. Besides having similar styles, there is a timing and harmony that is like no other. We’ve focused a lot in this project on family bonds and especially the relationship of mother and child, but this was a really inspired song choice as it speaks to that special relationship between father and son, Glenn having written this about losing his own father and both the difficulty and the peace that came with that.
I really enjoyed shooting this episode and both Sara and Sean were lovely people that invited me to see them play that night at Largo. I was actually already heading to that same show to see another friend and hadn’t realized that The Watkins family was also playing. It was a great night and I was blown away by Sara and Sean Watkins. I recommend you go out and see them live if they are ever in your area. — Anna
