The goal of The Voice Project is to use songs and music to solve problems and heal wounds in the world when words and diplomacy have failed. Music gives us a means to affect change when politicians and policy are unavailable to help bring about a resolution. We believe that Free Speech and the Right to Protest should be Universal Human Rights. That is why we so strongly support the efforts of Pussy Riot. We applaud them for choosing to use music to make their statement to bring about change in their society. On Friday their protest ended up with them facing a 2 year sentence in prison. Two of the members are mothers with young children.
It is a powerful and amazing thing that a small group of young women in Moscow could inspire the world and bring a magnifying glass on to the corruption and political injustice that brought millions to the streets of Moscow in protest last winter. Those mass protests got swept aside in the global 24hr news cycle; but the fact remains that these women (and mothers) are, even with the support of the world, still behind bars. And they face an uphill battle against the Russian legal system in the upcoming appeals process.
That is why we are working with them and helping to raise money for their legal defense fund. 100% of the funds we raise are going directly to their defense team, so please show your support. It’s important that we keep the pressure on until these artists are released from prison, and the injustices that they have protested are made right.
You can contribute to The Pussy Riot Legal Defense Fund at either Causes or on FundRazr and we will make sure the funds go directly to the legal defense team in Moscow.
Free speech for all humanity.
Keep the pressure on.
