It’s a coincidence that we shot this on a cold rainy day on the east coast and are releasing it now just as Sandy hits, but hopefully will be something warm to pass the time with before the power goes out. We all had a really interesting chat before we started shooting – about all sorts of things; the VP mission and efforts in Africa, the city of Austin and the bats under the bridge (Denison was fascinated by them), and Denison’s new baby. He was really nice and chatty. It was a cold rainy day outside but we all cozied up at their studio (which was amazing by the way) before the guys started playing. “Your Legs Grow” is a really inspired choice for the project lyrically, and sonically in their hands it’s handled so delicately, beautifully…preciously. Maybe part of it was being cozy inside on a cold rainy day outside, it felt like that feeling came through on the performance. And I thought the lyric switch from “call me anytime you’ve got a ghost” to “…anytime you need a ghost” subtly and interestingly altered the perspective of the protagonist. I always love shoots where the players are so in synch in feeling and tone for a performance as Dennison and Devin are on this one, like they share a special secret they’re letting us in on too, inviting the listener to come along and see a beautiful place they’ve found. It something that warms your bones, no matter the weather. Stay safe out there. — Sarah
