Eddie Vedder has released a cover of John Lennons Imagine to benefit Voice Project grantee HEARTBEAT.fm, an organization that uses music to foster peace between Israel and Palestine. The song is now available for purchase via iTunes.
In 2013 The Voice Project provided a operating grant to HEARTBEAT.fm to help amplify their message of peace across the borders of Gaza and Israel. We also covered and supported Mr. Vedder’s anti-war stand spelled out on the Pearl Jam website and together with his first live performance of the song back in July of this year in Portugal, where he said, “If you dont speak out, you dont know if someone doesnt like it, it probably means it has some kind of meaning its not just bullshit, its not just nothing.”
We’re thrilled at what the exposure from the song and operating funds will mean for the Heartbeat initiative, and also because efforts which use music, art, emotion, human commonality and heart are getting the due recognition and the support they need to try and create change where the politicians and world leaders have failed. Thank you Eddie.
