When I planned a trip up to Toronto to shoot Charlie Winston, his manager, Adham, mentioned that Charlie was opening for Bedouin Soundclash and we should absolutely get them involved in The Voice Project. I got in touch with their manager, Dave, who told me they would be thrilled to be in. It was a beautiful day in Toronto and Jay’s home has large windows with the sun filling the space so it immediately set a good vibe. The guys have known K’naan for a while so picked one of his songs and learned it on the spot. The rhythm of the bass and drums was so great it was hard not to start dancing. However, I got to see them perform live two nights later and they played “Fire in Freetown” and I got to shake it up there!
Thank you to the boys and to Dave Guenette. — AG
