“We had a nice sunny day in Venice to shoot this over at Blake’s house. We’ve shot enough in that neck of the woods that we were saying we might have to call this the Venice project. When we shot Dawes back at the end of 2009 in Silver Lake, Blake was one of the first people to come to mind for them to cover, they were saying “have you heard his lyrics, they’re so genius!” and Blake let us put up their version of “Hey Lover” before he had even released it himself…so very cool of him.
Blake is one of those ubiquitous musicians, he played with Dawes back when they were Simon Dawes, has been a touring guitarist with Julian Casablancas, Band Of Horses, Jenny Lewis and now Lucinda Williams, so it was perfect that he would pick one of hers with a message like wanting to see someone so bad for us. Whenever he plays you can easily find yourself just wanting to sit back, watch his left hand, and try and learn something. Many thanks to Blake and all the support he’s given for peace in central Africa.”
