As I got there, I had to walk through big green fence, and down the side of the house into the backyard. I could hear a distant strumming of sweet chords as I made my way. I walked over and introduced myself. You can tell right away Cate is such a sweet soul, she’s a calming force, understated. She said she chose “Chairs in the Dark” by one of her favorite musicians these days, White Fence, because it’s a “beautiful song, beautiful lyrics.” I hope this song echoes that quiet beauty to those who hear the recording as it did that moment in time, a sunny and still afternoon in a backyard in Los Angeles. — Francisco
