“I met Gary in London through a mutual friend and over a drink at the pub told him about the Voice Project. As most artists I have approached since, he was moved by the story of these women and agreed to be part of the project.
He and Jo had worked on the Joseph Arthur album “Nuclear Daydream” together and there’s always been a lot of mutual admiration and respect as artists and as friends. That idea of passing the music along to a friend, to someone you admire is apparent in his choice of song, “Chicago” which Gary thinks “is one of the best Joseph Arthur songs”.
Gary described his time working with Jo in his studio “Jo was in London also working on the Invisible Parade album which is an art book and instrumental opus that I think is a masterpiece. We did a drive around London with the album playing as a soundtrack while passing Big Ben and the Eye.”
I went to shoot Gary at his studio in West London which is always interesting to me to enter someone’s work environment and capture a piece of their everyday life on video. He’s hilarious though and a bit hard to hold the camera steady when your cracking up the whole time. — AG
