We stayed up all night watching this over and over. Screw any semblance of affected coolness, I love this video. Or as Katie’s manager David put it, “This is so good I wanna hit somebody.” Funny outside, Anna’s little thank you to the guy on the stoop for trying to give directions to the place. The thoughts I had watching this were, maybe not fully formed, but one was that idea of when someone is discovered by another, really seen with open eyes, how that seems to light them in a different way than maybe you saw them before, now looking a bit through the discoverer’s eyes. I think it can be with a song as well, like this Matthew Perryman Jones song in Katie’s voice, cradled in her hands, it’s lovely. An act of love. And also this idea of “saving” someone…in our age and particularly in the American culture of self-reliance, saving or being in need of saving seems very much to be something looked down on, but as you travel and see how people in other communities around the world lean on each other, take care of each other, depend on each other day to day, even if it’s just for borrowing a bit of food or always checking to see if their neighbor is home safe at night, it doesn’t seem all that bad of an idea. Thanks to Katie for this, and Dan for use of the piano. — Hunter
