For our first ever benefit get together in NYC we wanted to gather some unique voices from around town. Parts & Labor are from just around the way in Brooklyn, we’d been hearing a lot about them and loving on them lately…an email to Abe their manager and they were down with the cause right off. They get talked about with words like “noise rock” and “experimental,” always fun to see what folks come up with when a band is doing it’s own thing, but in their own words they mix “harsh and harmony” and they’re known for getting the volume up to 11 at live shows so we were really interested to hear what they’d be like stripped down…
We picked the Chelsea room at the Chelsea Hotel as the venue. Voice Project is something new but it’s built on an old tradition, and with that nod of respect to those who have come before, and just being music lovers, in our minds we had to do it at the Chelsea. You walk in and it’s hard not to think about the fact that you’re walking through the same spaces as Dylan, Hendrix, Dee Dee, Sid…you can feel it. Dan, BJ, and Joe came early and hung out all night talking to everyone, they had met Los Angeles based No Age at another event in Brooklyn and acting as Voice Project ambassadors passed on our story. They treated us all to this cool, ethereal translation of Life Prowler,” a total highlight of the night – many thanks to the guys, to Abe and everybody who came out to share the night…more on the way.
